Taking Time for Me

Meditation .... why do it?
A few years ago, I used to say, "Meditation is so hard!" because it was. And a friend of mine challenged my words. She said, "It's hard because you keep saying it's hard. How can it be anything but hard when those are the only words that come out of your mouth?" Wow! Snap! We (lovingly) argued back and forth about whether the *hard* part was because of me currently saying it, or if I was saying it because of past experience.
I'm not sure we ever came to a conclusion about that, but we did both agree that what was important was that I wanted it to be better than what I was experiencing. We agreed that I would serve myself well to say something like "I'm beginning to experience meditation getting easier and easier", but also to experience the *feeling* (peace) of what I wanted to feel like because of meditating. I don't know what your life is like, but back then most of the time my days had seemed to be anything but peaceful.
I began to say the words and tried to feel the feeling. It took some time. It was like throwing a frisbee (a thought) ahead of me. Taking a step or two and throwing more. The more steps I took, and the more frisbees I threw, the closer I got to getting to all those frisbees. The more steps I took in turning my thoughts to appreciating the benefits of meditating, the more I enjoyed the experience. Now I find that meditating is a time just for me to feel peace and calm inside of my body. And I meditate the way I want to, regardless of how anyone else does it, and my way works for me. I did what I could, with what I had, from where I was ... and I just kept going. My way of meditating has changed over time, just like I have.
My wish for you is that you discover a way to find peace and calm inside of your body, for inside that peace and calm is where you'll find your own self-love and self-acceptance.
